ATBU Postgraduate Admission 2025: Apply Now Before Deadline

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has opened applications for its 2025/2026 postgraduate programmes. If you’re thinking of furthering your studies at one of Nigeria’s federal universities, this might be your chance.

Applications are welcome from qualified candidates for full-time postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees and PhDs. The online form costs ₦11,000, and you’ve got until 30 September 2025 to apply.

What You Can Study

Programmes available include:

  • PhD, M.Sc., M.Eng., M.Tech., MBA, MHM, MAFS, MITM, MDS, MFM
  • M.Tech. Education and M.Sc. in Embedded Artificial Intelligence
  • PGD and Professional Masters in areas like Procurement Management, Environmental Studies and Social Development

It’s a wide spread. Chances are, you’ll find something that fits your interest.

Basic Requirements

For PGD (Postgraduate Diploma)

You need:

  • Five O’level credits, including English and Maths
  • A third-class degree or HND with at least lower credit
  • Relevant work experience helps if your degree doesn’t directly match

For Master’s

You must have:

  • Five O’level credits (English and Maths included)
  • A first degree with at least second-class lower from ATBU or another recognised university
  • If your CGPA is 2.40 to 2.99, you’ll need three years post-grad experience
  • Third-class grads must have five years work experience
  • HND holders must also have a credit-level PGD
  • Some may need to sit a test

For PhD

You’ll need:

  • A master’s degree in a related field
  • A CGPA of at least 3.50
  • Five O’level credits (including English and Maths)
  • A written research proposal (upload it and post a hard copy to your intended department)
  • You may have to write a qualifying exam or go through a short probation

Course Duration

PGD 12 months 24 months
Master’s 18 months 36 months
PhD 36 months 60 months

Engineering PGD courses take longer: 24 to 36 months.

Note: There’s no part-time option for PGD or Master’s. PhD students on part-time can take 46 to 84 months.

How To Apply

Apply online at the ATBU Postgraduate Portal from 23 June to 29 September 2025.

What You’ll Need:

  • A valid email and phone number
  • Scanned copies of all certificates
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate (no exceptions)
  • Transcript from your former school sent directly to the Head of Department of your proposed course
  • PhD applicants must also upload a research synopsis

Key Notes:

  • Fill the form carefully. Errors might cost you the chance.
  • Only those who complete their applications and send all required documents will be considered.
