GSU Gains NUC Full Accreditation for 6 Programmes

Gombe State University has received full NUC accreditation for six more degree programmes. This confirms the university’s strong academic standards and growing course quality. Keep reading to see which programmes were approved and what it means for students.

Gombe State University Gains Full Accreditation for Six Programmes

Gombe State University (GSU) has received full accreditation for six academic programmes across three faculties, following a formal evaluation by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The announcement came from the university’s Director of Academic Planning, Professor A. D. Bajoga, who confirmed that the review was held between October and November 2024.

This achievement strengthens the university’s position as a trusted centre for higher learning and brings the number of fully accredited undergraduate programmes at GSU to 63.

The six newly approved programmes cover a mix of arts, science, and professional fields:

  • Business Administration – Faculty of Arts and Social Science
  • Education English – Faculty of Education
  • Education History – Faculty of Education
  • Pharmacy – Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Biology – Faculty of Science
  • Geology – Faculty of Science

Each programme was carefully reviewed by NUC teams to check the curriculum, teaching staff, learning materials, and classroom facilities.

Understand what full accreditation means

Full accreditation shows that a course meets the official quality standard set for Nigerian universities. This means that:

  • Students can be confident about the value of their degree
  • Graduates will be recognised for further studies and jobs
  • The university can continue to admit new students into these courses without delay

Programmes with full status do not need another NUC review for five years unless major changes are made.

Read what university leadership said

Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, thanked the academic and non-academic staff, students, and the public for their support during the process. He said that this new approval shows the university’s steady rise in quality and trust.

His message praised everyone involved and encouraged continued commitment to learning and research across all departments.

Learn how this affects students and applicants

If you’re applying to GSU or already studying there, this is good news. You can apply to any of the six newly accredited programmes with full confidence. The accreditation also adds to the university’s public record and may improve its ranking and reputation.
