JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Resit Results

JAMB has released the 2025 UTME resit results, addressing technical issues and exam misconduct. Candidates can now check their results, while those absent will have another chance in the mop-up exam.

JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Resit Results, Addresses Exam Misconduct

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2025 UTME resit exams. These exams were for candidates affected by recent disruptions. Unfortunately, the event exposed serious misconduct by candidates and some CBT centres.

Actions Taken After the Exam

After the resit exams, JAMB organised a meeting with its Chief External Examiners (CEEs) from across Nigeria. They discussed results and made several key decisions:

  • Expert Review: A sub-committee led by Prof. Olufemi Peters of the National Open University reviewed the results carefully.
  • Psychometric Analysis: Prof. Boniface Nworgu, an expert in test analysis, was asked to confirm the results before their release.

Decisions About Specific Candidate Groups

Under-aged Candidates

JAMB has now released results for under-aged candidates who previously performed below standard, except those involved in legal disputes. But these candidates won’t qualify for admission, as stated during registration.

Candidates Involved in Cheating (WhatsApp Runs)

Results for those involved in online cheating groups were also released as a final warning. However, JAMB stressed this isn’t approval for their actions and urged students to avoid these dishonest activities in future.

Absentee Candidates

Candidates who missed the resit exam now have another chance in the annual mop-up exam. This chance is also open to those who missed the initial exam.

Actions Against Problematic CBT Centres

The meeting condemned CBT centres involved in serious misconduct. Those centres have been banned, and their owners could face prosecution. Staff who manipulated candidates’ registration details are also being investigated and could face legal action.

Issues with Tutorial Centres

The meeting also noted the negative role played by some tutorial centres. JAMB urged governments to properly regulate these centres to stop dishonest practices.

Computer-Based Exams Remain Important

Despite some issues, the meeting agreed CBT exams significantly reduce cheating and remain the best method for conducting fair exams.

Improving Accreditation Processes

JAMB was advised to hire professional management consultants to review and improve the accreditation of CBT centres and registration processes.

Warning Against Ethnic Division

The board expressed concern over attempts by certain groups to frame the disruption as ethnic or regional bias. JAMB clarified the issue wasn’t targeted at any specific area.

Commendation for JAMB Management

The meeting praised JAMB’s management for handling the situation responsibly and encouraged them to remain dedicated.

Resit Exam Results Summary

Out of 336,845 resit candidates, 21,082 didn’t attend. Performance trends remain consistent with past years, showing no major differences.

Opportunistic Exploitation of the Situation

The board warned against misinformation about exam scores from cancelled sessions. Investigations showed claims of high scores were false. An example involved a student from Adekunle Ajasin University who falsely claimed a high score online but had his real results exposed.

Results Withdrawal and Notifications

Some results were withdrawn due to security investigations into exam fraud. Affected candidates are being notified through text, email, and their online profiles. There’s no need for unaffected candidates to recheck results.

Shortcode SMS Charges Clarification

JAMB clarified it doesn’t earn money from the SMS shortcode (55019/66019) used to check results. The service is subsidised to protect candidates from cybercafé fraud.

Serious Malpractice Issues Identified

During exams, significant cases of digital cheating were uncovered, including:

  • CBT centres hacking local networks.
  • Using AI to blend candidate photos with impersonators.
  • Combining fingerprints from different people for one candidate.
  • Pairing candidates with “mercenaries” or impostors during exams.

Over 3,000 candidates were involved and risk losing their results as investigations continue.

Appreciation

JAMB thanked security agencies, WAEC, Ahmadu Bello University, TRCN, and NECO for their cooperation and support. The board assured Nigerians it remains committed to fairness and integrity in its operations.
