Popular Nigerian singer, Chinko Ekun has spoken out about the struggles and hurdles upcoming artists encounter in the music industry.
Ekun, in an interview with Punch, described music as a spiritual venture.
The ‘Able God’ crooner stated that financial constraints, signing contracts without legal guidance, the inability to build a dedicated team and industry inexperience were major stumbling blocks for upcoming artistes.
He said, “Music is a spiritual venture. The inspiration was right at the right time, and the featured artistes on the record gave it true vibe and originality. The synergy was 100 when we were creating the song. It was well arranged and it had catchy phrases.
“The lyrics are relatable. It’s a song that everyone from different facets of life can easily key into. The melodies are memorable and also the lines on the verses are quotable. Finally, a dance step is attached to the record. It stays in the mind of the people.
“The up-and-coming artistes majorly face financial issues because in today’s world, even good music needs a lot of promotion. Lack of industry knowledge, signing contracts without legal guidance, and the inability to build a dedicated team, all play a role as well. Meanwhile, some artistes are not original and just want to ‘blow’ quickly, finding themselves in the shadow of already established acts.”
Despite the music industry’s ups and downs, Chinko Ekun maintains a positive outlook on his career, adding, “I do not have any downtime. Every day is exciting to me. My fans love me every day, and I’m grateful for them.
