Plateau K!llings: Gov Mutfwang Visits Attacked Community, Makes Fresh Vows

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has pledged to put a stop to the recurring attacks and k!llings in communities across the state, attributing the violence to non-state actors he referred to as ‘unknown gunmen’. Mutfwang, who made the pledge on Wednesday when he visited the Jebbu Binde village of Ta-Hoss District in Riyom Local Government Area, where gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia attacked on Monday, k!lling over 30 people, slammed security agencies for lapses that led to the easy penetration of the assailants in the community, and gave them a marching order to arrest the perpetrators and overhaul their strategies going forward. The governor, who strongly condemned the attacks and k!lling of innocent people, including women and children, expressed concerns that the k!llings took place despite intelligence warnings and the presence of security operatives stationed some kilometres from the community. “Sadly, we got intelligence for this attack, yet the attack still happened. I’m calling on the security agencies to redouble their efforts; we need to reappraise our strategy and tactics,” Mutfwang said. “How can people come and attack people and k!ll them in their homes, and we say they are not known? “The perpetrators of the act must be arrested; the era of unknown gunmen is over. Let me remind our security agencies again, you are not here for peacekeeping; you are here to defend the lives and property of Nigerians. “Anybody that is threatening the lives of Nigerians is an enemy of the state and must be dealt with accordingly,” he stated, while promising that the government would do everything to support survivors and other victims of attacks in the state.
