Narrating her ordeal, the victim said Bakare deceived her into visiting his residence on the pretext of helping her search for her missing ward.

A tailor and commercial motorcyclist, Lekan Bakare, 29 has been arrested for allegedly r3ping a 35-year-old woman in the Alusekere area of Ede.

This is according to the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps.

The State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, disclosed this while parading Bakare alongside two other suspects before newsmen in Osogbo.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said Bakare deceived her into visiting his residence on the pretext of helping her search for her missing ward. Upon arrival, he reportedly brandished a locally made pistol and a knife, with which he threatened her before forcefully r3ping her.

Following the survivor’s swift report, Amotekun operatives launched an immediate manhunt and arrested the suspect, who has since confessed to the crime during interrogation. He further disclosed that the Corps apprehended two suspects over alleged involvement in burglary, and theft of valuables worth millions of naira.

The suspects were arrested during a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out by the Corps across various locations in the state. Omoyele disclosed that one of the suspects, 30-year-old bricklayer Kayode Adekunle, allegedly broke into an uncompleted residential building in a new site area of Osogbo where he carted away electrical tools and wiring materials valued at approximately N2.5 million.

Commander Omoyele explained that the suspect took advantage of his familiarity with the construction site to gain access after work hours, saying operatives, through discreet surveillance, traced and arrested him at his residence where the stolen items were recovered.

In a similar operation, 23-year-old tailor, Lawal Musa, a native of Kaduna but residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo, was arrested for stealing household items including a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two standing fans, with a total estimated value of over N800,000.

Upon interrogation, Lawal reportedly confessed to the crime, revealing that he sold the stolen items to a buyer identified as “Rilwan,” who is also based in the Sabo area.

According to him, he sold the television for N27,000 and the two fans for N30,000 — prices far below their actual value. Commander Omoyele stated that the cases have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

He reassured residents of the Corps’ continued resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain public safety. “These arrests are a clear testament to our zero-tolerance stance on crime in Osun State,” Omoyele said. “We urge members of the public to continue supporting our operations by volunteering timely and credible information. Together, we shall make Osun a safe haven for all.”
