Why I Left Nollywood at The Peak of My Career for The US – Temitope Solaja

Nigerian actress, Temitope Solaja has revealed why she left the movie industry at the peak of her career for Houston, USA. She spoke in a recent interview on the Talk to B show by Biola Bayo. According to her, she made the decision to leave purely for survival. “People thought I was pregnant when I relocated, and I was going to have my child in America. I would cry and wonder if I made the right decision because I wanted to go start all over.” “It was the hardest decision I ever made. I was just tired. Tired of the system. Tired of the uncertainty. Tired of being stuck.” According to her, leaving Nigeria in 2019 was not planned. “I just needed something more stable… I wanted to create a better life for myself, my siblings, my future children.” Though she had fame, a growing brand, and a support system at home, she chose to walk away from it all. She said: “It was like starting life all over again. I had no family in the U.S., no friends. It was cold — literally and emotionally.” She moved from Houston to Indianapolis, battling loneliness and culture shock, but somehow kept going. On what kept her grounded, “God,” she said firmly. “I may not have been a church person in Nigeria, but America taught me how spiritual life really is. I faced attacks, mental breakdowns, and moments of deep fear. But it also helped me know God for myself.” She has now assured that she’s back for good. She said: “I’m not fully back, but I’ll be coming in and out. Nollywood is still home.”
